Simple English Wiktionary contributors. Machine-readable extraction by Kaikki.org using Wiktextract. Displayed dictionary text is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Icons
Modern blue line icons are original embedded vector artwork created for WaySpeak, including the revised sound-line and open-book-with-text dictionary pictures. Classic button artwork includes Microsoft's Fluent Emoji, licensed under the MIT license, and project artwork. Application artwork is separate from the dictionary data license.
The current Modern app pictures are rendered directly from the production Windows controls. Dictionary display pictures are resized for the website; definitions are unchanged. The app dictionary was filtered to short English entries and normalized for lookup. Its full attribution and change notice are included with the app.
Offline reading voice
The Heart, Michael and George voices use Kokoro presets through KokoroSharp (MIT license) and MisakiSharp (Apache 2.0 license). The Kokoro-82M model and voice are licensed under Apache 2.0.
Saying words like “lead” and “wind” the right way
Some words are spelled one way and said two ways. WaySpeak reads the sentence around them to choose the right sound. This uses all-MiniLM-L6-v2, a small language model, in the 8-bit form made by Xenova, licensed under Apache 2.0. Its choices were taught with WikipediaHomographData from Google (Kyle Gorman, Gleb Mazovetskiy and Vitaly Nikolaev), also licensed under Apache 2.0. Its sentences come from English Wikipedia. All of it runs on your own PC.
Offline speech-to-text
Speak to Type's private offline model is Vosk's small US English model, licensed under Apache 2.0. “Offline best” uses NVIDIA Nemotron Speech Streaming En 0.6b, licensed by NVIDIA Corporation under the NVIDIA Open Model License, run with sherpa-onnx (Apache 2.0 license).
Optional languages
These are downloaded only if you choose a language under “Speak in” in Settings.
Translation. WaySpeak translates on your own PC with Mozilla’s Firefox Translations models, © Mozilla, used unchanged under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. They run with bergamot-translator and BergamotTranslatorSharp (both Mozilla Public License 2.0), which use Marian NMT (MIT license), SentencePiece (Apache 2.0 license) and intgemm (MIT license).
Elena and Mateo voices (Spanish, Portuguese and French). Supertonic 2 by Supertone Inc., licensed under the OpenRAIL-M license, in the packaging made for sherpa-onnx (MIT license). Their speech is made by a computer. The license’s use rules are in our Terms of Use, section 5.
